I just ran across this John Gall quote in the last month that I thought you'd enjoy.
"A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that works. The inverse proposition also appears to be true: A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be made to work."
"Information processing and flows need themselves to be controlled, so that informational technologies must continue to be applied at higher and higher layers of control."
Thats a good one -- very similar to the idea from Mythical Man Month... that gen 1 is often simple and effective and gen 2 of the system is bloated and complicated.
No wonder you make the edge look easy, you can run an Enterprises' IT vision, consistently contribute to the industry via your blog/articles, AND navigate your own wedding, talk about living what you preach in terms of making "complex" as simple as it can be. Congratulations good sir!
All-cloud does seem like a popular option for QSR's, but when it comes to some ideas of innovation that some are whispering about within their orgs (i.e., AI in Cameras/Computer Vision to ensure quality), there are software vendors who are either bringing their own devices into the clients edge or asking the customer to figure it out. A consolidated, simple, HA edge platform seems like it could help give Financial Control/ Data Control/Strategic Control.
Another great set of insights here. Now, what article comes out on the honeymoon?
Haha thanks Jacob! I agree with your statements about the edge. It is more "complex" than just using cloud until you don't have an internet connection. Then the business is complex instead of the technology, which is much worse.
In terms of honeymoon, that is the rest of my life, right? So lots of blogs. :) We're waiting until later in the summer / early fall to go out west for some hiking and adventures, so I'll be here writing weekly for a while! 🙏
Whoa now that is a golden phrase right there "then the business is complex instead of the technology, which is much worse". I'm stealing that one!! haha
I like that perspective, "honeymoon is the rest of my life", my fiance would love hearing that one, I think I might have to steal that line as well.
Can't wait to see some hiking pics (way out at the edge) added into future articles. Sounds like a perfect trip idea.
Thinking we might elope, something quick and small somewhere fun, nothing set in stone yet, but we definitely want it done sooner than later, open to all creative ideas!! :D
I do think the edges of nature bring a nice visual to the idea of edge (mountain tops, oceans, space, mars). The pics from that trip will be a nice touch.

"The Control Revolution" was one of the more fascinating books I've read.
As societies grow more complex, so too do their systems of control.

Excellent writing and I enjoyed how you showed us your real world application example.
Also, congratulations on your wedding!! 🎉 Say it with me- "Yes Dear. Yes Love. I am sorry." 🙏🏽
Thanks Nick! Much appreciated. And 🤣

Feel free to use that as needed. Just make sure to quote the Chamber of Tech Secrets episode 16 when you do 🤣
Fiance? Do you have an imminent wedding as well?
I'll make sure to include pics when the trip happens and maybe write about something I observe that relates to tech
Definitely will quote it, and will hyperlink it!
